自2021年起，青海省文物考古研究院联合西北大学文化遗产学院对夏尔雅玛可布遗址进行考古发掘。该遗址考古发掘项目负责人杜玮介绍，2023年度发掘面积500平方米，结合勘探和试掘，确认了遗址的总面积和功能区划。居址区总面积约7万平方米，发现有石（城）墙、房屋建筑基址、（铜）冶铸遗存等重要遗迹。

此外，联合考古队在该遗址发现三片墓地，总面积12万平方米，共有墓葬3228座，现已发掘52座。“目前已发现大量陶器、铜器、石（玉）器、骨器、木器、编织物和人骨、动植物遗存，为诺木洪文化研究提供了大量的实物资料。”杜玮说。
