论文通讯作者、云南大学古生物研究院研究员刘煜介绍，在先前的研究中，章氏麒麟虾被描述为头部长有五只复眼，即一对前眼和三只后眼。最新研究却发现，章氏麒麟虾只有一只中眼和一对侧眼，此前被认定为中间后眼的结构实为“前骨片”。

据介绍，从寒武纪生命大爆发开始，节肢动物就是地球上演化最成功、物种多样性最高的动物类群之一。其中，来自云南澄江生物群的章氏麒麟虾被认为是节肢动物起源的关键过渡类型代表，有很高的科研价值。

为了看清章氏麒麟虾的全貌，中英联合研究团队使用了显微CT、计算机三维建模、虚拟解剖等技术，使5亿多年前的化石以立体的形态呈现在研究者面前。

此外，这项研究还完善并修订了章氏麒麟虾的前附肢、躯干体节、尾部附肢等部位的形态及数量，并提出了关于早期节肢动物头部演化的新假说。

“研究成果得益于新技术的助力。”西北大学地质学系研究员韩健评价说，“通过显微CT技术，研究者就澄江动物群中常见节肢动物的软躯体形态特征，取得了一系列令人意想不到的成果。”（记者岳冉冉）
